The course provides an introduction and overview on applied fatigue and fracture mechanics.

After a basic introduction to fatigue, both stress-based (S-N curve) and strain-based (e-N curve) fatigue analyses are covered, with a discussion on when these analyses are applicable. The course introduces the fundamental concepts of fracture mechanics and explains how these can be utilized to design against fatigue ensuring a greater level of structural sustainability. Test methods to obtain fatigue related material properties are discussed with emphasis on why these tests should be carried out with utmost care.

Industry and academia

This course has been developed in collaboration with industry partners within the framework of one of our educational projects. The project aims to provide courses at advanced level to a mix of professionals and students to strengthen the Swedish industry's competitiveness.
