Américo Scotti, Mechanical Engineer graduated in 1979, MSc in Manufacturing (1982), obtained his PhD in Welding Technology in 1991 at Cranfield University, UK. He has superved several PhD and MSc students. He opted for an earlier retirement in 2014 as a full professor at the Federal University of Uberlandia. He is at the moment with University West, Sweden, as visiting professor. He also works as consultant on welding technology for companies with plants in Brazil, such as Praxair, Belgo Bekart and Petrobrás. He is classified as Researcher 1A by CNPq (the Brazilian central agency for research development). He is author of 4 printed books on welding and published 115 papers in scientific journals and more than 200 papers presented in conferences. He has 3 registered patents as co-author. He is Technical Director of the Brazilian Welding Society and member of the executive committee of the Brazilian Authorized Board for personnel qualification (IIW – International Institute of Welding)).

He is one of the Brazilian delegates in IIW activities and, at the moment, member of the Board of Directors, chairman of the Study Group RES (research strategy and cooperation) and member of the TMB – Technical Management Board of IIW.
